§ 29162 Special Bond Election Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •If a special vote about bonds (like borrowing money for schools or roads) happens alone, the people in charge must decide where and how people vote.
  • •They have to pick voting spots, even if it means more than one spot in the same area, and split voters into groups to keep things fair.
  • •They also have to choose at least 3 people to run each voting spot: one boss and two helpers.
  • •If the bond vote happens at the same time as another vote (like a regular election), they don’t have to repeat all the voting spot details—just say what’s different.

Example

Your town wants to borrow money to build a new park, so they call a special vote just for that.

The town leaders must pick where people vote (like the school gym), split voters into groups (like A-F and G-Z), and choose 3 people to run each voting spot. If the park vote happens on the same day as voting for mayor, they only have to say what’s new or different for the park vote.

§ 29162 Special Bond Election Procedures

Whenever a special bond election is called pursuant to this part and is not consolidated with any other election the board shall in its resolution calling such special bond election, in addition to all other matters required to be set forth therein: (a) Specify the precincts or consolidated precincts in each county or portion of a county which are adopted for the purposes of the election and designate the location of the polling places, provided that one or more polling places may be established within the same precinct and separate ballot boxes and separate officers of election provided for each group of electors, which group shall be determined by alphabetical designations and divided into groups as nearly equal in number as practicable. (b) Specify the names of the officers selected to conduct the election, who shall consist of at least one inspector and two judges in each precinct, but not in excess of six election officers for each polling place. Whenever the special bond election called pursuant to this part is consolidated in whole or in part with any other election, the precincts, polling places and election officers need not be set forth in the resolution calling the special bond election except only to the extent that any precinct, polling place and election officers established for the special bond election differ or are in addition to those established for the election with which the special bond election called pursuant to this part is consolidated. (Added by Stats. 1957, Ch. 1056.)
