§ 24352 Self-Insurance Certificate Application

Key Takeaways

  • •You can ask the government for a special paper that says you don’t need regular car insurance.
  • •You can ask for this paper anytime, even if you haven’t been in a car crash.
  • •This paper is only if you can prove you have enough money to pay for damages yourself.

Example

If you own a lot of cars and have a bunch of money saved up, you might not want to pay for regular car insurance every month.

Instead of buying insurance, you can ask the government for a special paper (certificate of self-insurance) that lets you drive without it. But you have to show you can cover the costs if you cause a crash.
