§ 13531 Special District Creation Votes

Key Takeaways

  • •To create a special district, each area (like a city or unincorporated land) votes separately.
  • •The special district is only created if most voters in *each* area say 'yes'.
  • •If even one area votes 'no', the whole thing fails—no special district.

Example

Imagine two towns, Town A and Town B, voting on whether to create a new water district together.

If 60% of Town A votes 'yes' but only 40% of Town B votes 'yes', the water district won’t be created. Both towns must have a majority 'yes' vote.
