§ 106051 District Claims Procedures

This law says that if you want money or compensation from a government district, you have to follow the rules in Division 3.6 of the Government Code, unless the law says otherwise or another specific law applies.

Key Takeaways

  • •All money or damage claims against a district follow Division 3.6 of the Government Code.
  • •There are exceptions listed in that division, so you have to check the details.
  • •If another law specifically says it applies, that law can be used instead.

Example

A parent sues the local school district because their child got hurt on school property and wants the district to pay for medical bills.

The parent must use the claim‑filing process set out in Division 3.6 of the Government Code, because that is the rule the law says applies to any money claim against the district.
