§ 100309 Vta Employee Representation

This law lets VTA workers pick a union they want, choose one union to speak for them, and gives the Public Employment Relations Board the power to make sure the rule is followed.

Key Takeaways

  • •Employees can join any employee organization they want.
  • •Only one organization can be the exclusive representative for a work unit.
  • •The Public Employment Relations Board enforces these rules.

Example

A VTA bus driver wants to join a union and have that union be the only one that talks to the VTA about wages and work conditions.

The driver can choose a union, the union becomes the exclusive representative for the driver’s work unit, and the Public Employment Relations Board makes sure the VTA follows the rule.
