§ 511 School Rifle Purchase Authority

This law lets certain school and education officials buy rifles for training or practice using any unused school funds.

Key Takeaways

  • •Only specific officials can make the purchase.
  • •The rifles must be for training or marksmanship.
  • •They can be bought with any school funds that aren't already earmarked for other uses.

Example

A county school board wants to buy a few rifles so students can practice marksmanship as part of a JROTC program.

Because the rifles are for drill or marksmanship, the board can spend leftover school money on them without needing a new budget approval.
