§ 1260 Definitions For Political Subdivisions

This law just explains what a few words mean, like what a city or county is, who runs them, and what counts as a veterans group or a nonprofit veterans agency.

Key Takeaways

  • •A "political subdivision" is any city, county, district, or other local government agency.
  • •A "governing body" is the board of supervisors for a county or the city council/board of trustees for a city or district.
  • •A "veterans association" is a group made up only of people who served honorably in the U.S. military (or allied forces) and is organized for patriotic, fraternal, and charitable purposes.
  • •A "nonprofit veteran service agency" is defined elsewhere in the Military and Veterans Code.

Example

A city council wants to give a grant to a local veterans club for a community event.

The council looks at this law to see if the club fits the definition of a "veterans association" and if the city itself counts as a "political subdivision" so the grant can be given correctly.
