§ 859 Broker And Agent Fees

This law tells the state commissioner how much to charge for broker and agent applications and for exams, audits, or investigations.

Key Takeaways

  • •The first office costs $283.
  • •Each extra office adds $136 to the fee.
  • •An agent’s application costs a flat $136.
  • •Exam, audit, or investigation fees include real costs plus staff pay and typing costs.

Example

Maria wants to open a new real estate office in two different locations and needs a broker’s certificate.

She must pay the fee for the first office plus an extra fee for each additional location. The first office costs $283 and each extra office adds $136.

How to Calculate

Fee = $283 + ($136 × number of additional offices)

  1. Count how many offices are being added beyond the first one.
  2. Multiply that number by $136.
  3. Add $283 to the product from step 2.

Maria has 2 offices total (1 first office + 1 additional office).

Result: $283 + ($136 × 1) = $419
