§ 80930 Claim Filing Deadline

Key Takeaways

  • •You have only 3 years to tell the government if they did something wrong and you lost money or stuff because of it.
  • •The 3 years start when you find out about the problem, not when it actually happened.
  • •If the problem happened before 1982, you still have until 1985 to tell them.

Example

Your car gets damaged because a government truck hits it, but you don’t notice the damage until later.

You have 3 years from the day you see the damage to tell the government and ask them to pay for the repairs. If you wait longer, they won’t have to pay.
