§ 78895 Hazardous Substance Cleanup Transparency

Key Takeaways

  • •The government must set clear goals to make sure cleanups of dangerous stuff in the environment happen on time.
  • •The government must share easy-to-find info online about each cleanup, like where it is, what’s dirty, and how they plan to fix it.
  • •You can check the progress of cleanups and see when they expect to finish.

Example

A factory spilled chemicals into the ground near a neighborhood.

The government must post online where the spill is, what chemicals are there, and their plan to clean it up. They also have to set deadlines to make sure the cleanup doesn’t take forever.
