§ 51525 State Agency Liability Limits

• •The state and the agency won't pay more than what's in the fund for any debts or promises related to it.
• •If the fund doesn't have enough money, you can't ask the state or agency to pay from their own pockets.
• •This rule is about protecting the state and agency from paying extra money they don't have.

Imagine the state has a special fund to help fix potholes on roads. The fund only has $100,000 in it.

If fixing all the potholes costs $150,000, the state will only spend the $100,000 it has in the fund. They won’t pay the extra $50,000 from somewhere else.
