§ 4870 Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Districts

Key Takeaways

  • •If a place has sewers but no one is taking care of them, it can become a special district to fix and maintain them.
  • •This rule works for both cities and areas outside cities, but cities must agree to be part of it.
  • •The goal is to make sure sewers are kept in good shape so they don’t cause problems.

Example

A neighborhood outside a big city has old sewers that keep breaking, but no one is fixing them.

The people in that neighborhood can ask to form a special district to take care of the sewers. If they do, they can start fixing and maintaining them properly. But if the neighborhood is part of a city, the city leaders must say it’s okay first.
