§ 44010 Smog Check Station Authorization

• •Cars must pass a smog check to make sure they don’t pollute too much.
• •Special places called 'smog check stations' do these tests—they’re not run by the government.
• •If your car passes, you get a paper saying it’s okay. If it fails, you get a paper saying it’s not okay.

You take your old car to a smog check station before you can renew your registration.

The station tests your car’s exhaust. If it’s too dirty, they give you a 'noncompliance' paper, and you have to fix your car before you can drive it legally.
