§ 40454 Employer Trip Reduction Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •Big companies (with 100+ workers in one place) in the south coast area must give their workers info about carpooling and public transit.
  • •These companies don’t have to make a special plan to reduce car trips, even if other laws say they should.
  • •The rule only applies to the south coast area—other places might have different rules.
  • •The goal is to help workers find easier ways to get to work without driving alone.

Example

A big factory in Los Angeles has 150 workers. The boss gets a letter saying they must tell workers about bus routes and carpool groups.

The factory doesn’t have to write a big plan to cut down on car trips, but they do have to share info so workers can find rides or take the bus.
