§ 39659 Toxic Air Pollutant Regulation

Key Takeaways

  • •The state and local agencies can make rules to control dangerous air pollutants that are listed as toxic.
  • •These rules can include checking on companies, giving out permits, and making sure the rules are followed.
  • •The rules must also follow certain federal laws and guidelines to keep the air safe.
  • •The state must use the same definitions for these pollutants as the federal government does.

Example

A factory releases harmful chemicals into the air.

The state can make rules to check how much pollution the factory is releasing. They can give the factory a permit with rules to follow and punish them if they break those rules. This helps keep the air clean and safe for everyone.
