§ 25993 Enforcement And Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •Two big groups (Department of Food and Agriculture and State Department of Public Health) had to make rules for this law by September 1, 2019.
  • •If you break this law, you can get in trouble: you might have to pay up to $1,000 or go to jail for up to 180 days, or both.
  • •Breaking certain parts of this law can also mean you're being unfair to other businesses, and you can get punished for that too.
  • •This law is the boss over other rules about how animals are kept and how their products are sold—if other rules say something different, this law wins.

Example

A farmer keeps pigs in really small cages where they can't move, which breaks the rules of this law.

The farmer could get fined up to $1,000 or even go to jail for up to 180 days. Also, if the farmer is selling pork from these pigs, they might be punished for unfair competition because they didn't follow the rules.
