§ 21 Director Definition Update

Key Takeaways

  • •The law defines who the 'Director' is in health and safety rules.
  • •Before July 1, 2007, the 'Director' meant the 'State Director of Health Services'.
  • •After July 1, 2007, the 'Director' means the 'State Public Health Officer' for certain health functions.
  • •This change was made to update who is in charge of specific health duties.

Example

If you read an old health rule from 2006 that says the 'Director' must approve a new hospital, you might think it's the old 'State Director of Health Services'.

But because of this law, since July 1, 2007, the 'Director' in that rule actually means the 'State Public Health Officer'. So, the new hospital needs approval from the State Public Health Officer, not the old Director.
