§ 14931 Property Maintenance Liens

Key Takeaways

  • •The city can make you clean up weeds, trash, or stuff blocking sidewalks or streets near your property.
  • •If you don’t clean it up, the city can do it and charge you for the cost.
  • •If you don’t pay, the city can put a lien on your property (like a forced debt) and even sell it to get their money back.

Example

Your front yard is full of tall weeds and trash, and your neighbor complains.

The city can tell you to clean it up. If you ignore them, they’ll clean it and send you the bill. If you don’t pay, they can take money from selling your property.
