§ 13821 District Formation Resolution Process

Key Takeaways

  • •A city or county can suggest making a new district by passing a special paper called a 'resolution of application'.
  • •Before passing this paper, they must hold a public meeting where anyone can talk about it.
  • •They have to tell people about the meeting by putting an ad in a local newspaper.
  • •After the meeting, they send a copy of the paper to a special office that handles district changes.

Example

Imagine your city wants to create a new school district.

The city leaders would first hold a public meeting to let everyone share their thoughts. They would announce this meeting in the local newspaper. After the meeting, if they decide to go ahead, they would send a copy of their decision to a special office that handles these kinds of changes.
