§ 13215 Highrise Fire Safety Violations

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't build or keep a tall building if it breaks fire or panic safety rules.
  • •If you break these rules, you can go to jail for up to 6 months or pay up to $10,000, or both.
  • •Every day you keep breaking the rules after being told to stop is a new crime.
  • •The government can fix or remove the unsafe building if you don't.

Example

You own a 10-story apartment building but ignore fire safety rules, like not having enough fire exits.

If the fire department tells you to fix it and you don’t, you could be fined or jailed for every day you wait. The government might even fix it themselves and make you pay.
