§ 13132 Patient Ambulatory Status Reporting

Key Takeaways

  • •Places that care for people with mental disabilities must tell the local fire department if a patient can walk or not, and why.
  • •They have to do this within 5 days of a new or returning patient arriving.
  • •They also had to do this for all current patients within 30 days when this law started.
  • •It's against the law to lie on these forms, and they can get in trouble if they do.

Example

A care home gets a new patient who uses a wheelchair.

The care home must tell the fire department within 5 days that this patient cannot walk and explain why. If they lie and say the patient can walk, they are breaking the law.
