§ 130067 Seton Medical Center Waiver

Key Takeaways

  • •Seton Medical Center in Daly City can get special permission to not follow some earthquake safety rules for a while.
  • •To get this permission, they must send a plan to the state by January 15, 2022, showing how they will meet the safety rules by July 1, 2023.
  • •The state must agree that the plan is good and will keep people safe.
  • •If the state says yes, the hospital must send updates on their progress every few months. If they don’t, the state can take away the special permission.

Example

Imagine a school needs to fix its buildings to be safe in an earthquake, but it needs more time to do the work.

The school can ask the government for extra time by sending a plan that shows how they will finish the fixes by a certain date. If the government agrees, the school must send updates to show they are working on the plan. If the school stops working or doesn’t send updates, the government can say no more extra time and make them follow the rules right away.
