§ 129765 Hospital Plan Approval Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to build or change a hospital, you must send detailed plans to the government for approval.
  • •The government can let you send and approve the plans in parts (phased) if they agree in writing.
  • •If you send plans in parts, you pay a fee based on how much it costs the government to review them.
  • •This fee is taken from the bigger fee you pay later when you officially apply.

Example

A hospital wants to add a new wing with 50 rooms.

The hospital must send detailed building plans to the government. If the government agrees, they can send the plans in parts (like first the foundation, then the walls). The hospital pays a fee for each part reviewed, but this fee is later taken off the total application fee.

§ 129765 Hospital Plan Approval Requirements

(a) Except as set forth in subdivision (b), the application for approval of the plans shall be accompanied by the plans, including full, complete, and accurate specifications, and structural design computations, which shall comply with the requirements prescribed by the department. The department may permit electronic submission, review, and approval of plans. (b) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), the department, in its sole discretion, may enter into a written agreement with the hospital governing authority for the phased submittal and approval of plans. The department shall charge a fee for the review and approval of plans submitted pursuant to this subdivision. This fee shall be based on the estimated cost, but shall not exceed the actual cost, of the entire phased review and approval process for those plans. This fee shall be deducted from the application fee pursuant to Section 129785. (Amended by Stats. 2021, Ch. 143, Sec. 285. (AB 133) Effective July 27, 2021.)
