§ 128454 Mental Health Provider Education Program

Key Takeaways

  • •This program helps mental health workers pay back their school loans if they work in places that really need them, like areas with not enough mental health help or public facilities.
  • •Workers must agree to stay in these needed areas for at least one year to get the money.
  • •The amount of money they can get depends on how much they borrowed for school and how long they work in these areas.
  • •Not everyone can get this help—it depends on how much money the program has.

Example

A therapist who owes $50,000 in student loans works in a small town where there are very few mental health workers.

Because the town is a 'mental health professional shortage area,' the therapist can apply for this program to get money to pay back their loans. If they get approved, they must work in that town for at least one year. The program might give them part of the $50,000 each year they stay, depending on the rules.
