§ 118000 Medical Waste Transport Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Medical waste must only go to special places that have permission to handle it, like treatment centers or transfer spots.
  • •Places that move medical waste around must be checked every year and get a permit to do it.
  • •If medical waste is taken to another state or country, it must go to a place that can handle it there. If not, it must be treated in California first.

Example

A hospital has old needles and bandages they need to throw away.

The hospital can't just toss them in the regular trash. They have to send them to a special place that has permission to handle medical waste. If they send it to another state, that place must also have permission to take it.
