§ 117950 Medical Waste Generator Registration

Key Takeaways

  • •Big places that make a lot of medical waste must sign up with the government before they start.
  • •If many big waste-makers are in the same building or work together, they can sign up as one group.
  • •If they are in different buildings but close by (within 400 yards), they might also sign up as one group if the government says it's okay.
  • •Moving medical waste between close-by places must follow special safety rules for transportation.

Example

A big hospital and a nearby clinic want to register together for their medical waste.

If the hospital and clinic are within 400 yards of each other, they can ask the government to register as one group instead of separately. But if they move waste between them, they have to follow strict safety rules for transporting it.
