§ 117090 Public Fishing Vote Requirement

Key Takeaways

  • •If the agency doesn't allow a new use (like fishing) in a water area, they have to ask the people to vote on it.
  • •The vote happens at the next big election (state or local).
  • •If most people vote 'yes,' the agency must allow the new use (like fishing) as long as it follows the rules in the permit.

Example

A town wants to allow fishing in a lake that was previously off-limits.

If the town leaders say no, they have to let the townspeople vote on it at the next election. If most people vote yes, fishing is allowed.
