§ 11358 Cannabis Cultivation Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •Kids under 18 can't grow or process cannabis at all—it's against the law.
  • •If you're 18-20, you can grow up to 6 cannabis plants, but you'll get a small fine if caught.
  • •If you're 21 or older and grow more than 6 plants, you could go to jail for up to 6 months or pay a bigger fine.
  • •If growing cannabis hurts the environment (like polluting water or harming animals), the punishment is much worse.

Example

A 22-year-old grows 10 cannabis plants in their backyard.

Since they grew more than 6 plants, they could go to jail for up to 6 months or pay a $500 fine. If they also dumped dirty water into a river while growing the plants, they’d be in even bigger trouble.
