§ 111675 Coal Tar Hair Dye Labeling

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about special hair dye made with coal tar.
  • •The hair dye must have a clear warning label.
  • •The label must say it can irritate skin and cause blindness if used on eyelashes or eyebrows.
  • •The label must include instructions for a skin test before using the dye.

Example

You buy a box of hair dye at the store.

If the dye has coal tar in it, the box must have a big warning label. The label tells you to do a skin test first because it might irritate your skin. It also says not to use it on your eyelashes or eyebrows because it could make you blind. If the dye doesn’t have this warning, it’s breaking the law.
