§ 110600 Fresh Meat Chemical Restrictions

Key Takeaways

  • •Fresh meat can't have any preservatives or chemicals that aren't approved by the government.
  • •The government groups that decide what's allowed are the state's Department of Food and Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the state's department.
  • •If fresh meat has unapproved chemicals, it's considered bad or unsafe.

Example

A butcher adds a chemical to keep meat looking red longer, but the chemical isn't on the approved list.

This meat is now considered unsafe because the chemical isn't allowed. The butcher could get in trouble for selling it.
