§ 103535 Amended Birth Certificate Requests

This law tells how a parent can get a new, corrected birth certificate and how the paperwork moves between local and state offices.

Key Takeaways

  • •A parent can ask the local registrar or county recorder for a corrected birth certificate.
  • •The local office must request the new copy from the State Registrar.
  • •When the State Registrar sends the copy, the local office can issue certified copies and file it the same way as other birth records.

Example

A mom notices her child's birth certificate has the wrong middle name and asks the county recorder for a corrected version.

The county recorder asks the State Registrar for a copy of the corrected certificate. The State Registrar sends it back, and the county recorder then gives the mom certified copies and files the new record just like any other birth record.
