§ 102675 Adoption Birth Certificate Amendments

This law lets adoptive parents ask for a new birth certificate that leaves out certain details like the hospital name, birth city, or the parents' race.

Key Takeaways

  • •Adoptive parents can request a new, amended birth certificate after the original is issued.
  • •The new certificate can leave out any or all of: hospital name/address, city/county of birth, and parents' color/race.
  • •The law has been in effect since January 1 1996.

Example

A family adopts a baby and wants the child's birth record to hide where the baby was born and the parents' race for privacy reasons.

They can request the state to give them a new birth certificate that does not show the hospital address, the city and county, or the parents' color and race.
