§ 102650 Single-Parent Adoption Certificates

This law says that when a child is adopted by a single man or woman, the new birth certificate can show that it is a single‑parent adoption if the adopting parent asks for it.

Key Takeaways

  • •A single person who adopts can have the adoption noted as a single‑parent adoption on the certificate.
  • •The notation only appears if the adopting parent specifically requests it.
  • •This rule works even if other parts of the law say something different.

Example

A single woman adopts a baby and wants the birth certificate to say the child was adopted by a single parent.

Because she is the only adopting parent, she can request that the certificate note "single‑parent adoption," and the state must allow it.
