§ 102305 Birth Certificate Review Requirements

The local birth and death registrar must check every certificate and ask for missing or wrong information before officially recording it.

Key Takeaways

  • •Every birth or death certificate is reviewed before it is accepted.
  • •If the form doesn't follow the state’s rules, the registrar can ask for more information.
  • •The certificate must be fixed to match the rules before it can be officially recorded.

Example

A parent submits a birth certificate that leaves the baby's middle name blank.

The registrar will tell the parent to fill in the missing middle name (or any other required detail) before the birth can be officially recorded.
