§ 101960 Los Angeles Healthcare Crisis

This law says Los Angeles County has a huge problem giving health care because many people have no insurance or only rely on public programs.

Key Takeaways

  • •Almost half of Los Angeles residents lack private health insurance.
  • •More than 1.6 million people have no insurance at all.
  • •Over 2 million rely on Medi‑Cal or other public programs, putting huge strain on county hospitals.

Example

A family in Los Angeles can’t get a doctor’s visit because none of the parents have health insurance and the county hospitals are already full.

The law points out that because so many people are uninsured or on Medi‑Cal, the county’s medical system can’t keep up, leaving families like this without needed care.
