§ 101645 Board Member Meeting Pay

This law lets the board decide how much to pay people who sit on its boards or committees, setting a maximum per meeting and a monthly limit, plus any reasonable expenses.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board can set pay, but it cannot be more than the per‑meeting limit or the monthly cap.
  • •People can also be reimbursed for reasonable expenses they actually incur.
  • •Staff members of the authority are not covered by this rule.

Example

A director goes to three board meetings in one month and spends $20 on travel and meals.

The board can pay the director up to $50 for each meeting, but no more than $100 total for the month. Because three meetings would be $150, the monthly cap of $100 applies. Then the $20 of travel costs are added, so the director gets $120.

How to Calculate

Payment = min(Number_of_Meetings × Per_Meeting_Limit, Monthly_Cap) + Reasonable_Expenses

  1. Count how many meetings the person attended in the month.
  2. Multiply that number by the per‑meeting limit (e.g., $50 for a director).
  3. Compare that total to the monthly cap (e.g., $100 for a director) and keep the smaller amount.
  4. Add any reasonable expenses the person actually spent while attending the meetings.
  5. The sum from Step 4 is the total amount the authority can pay.

Director attends 3 meetings, per‑meeting limit $50, monthly cap $100, expenses $20.

Result: Payment = min(3 × 50, 100) + 20 = min(150, 100) + 20 = 100 + 20 = $120
