§ 100921 Freestanding Cardiac Catheterization Licensing

This law says that heart‑testing labs that are not in a hospital, but took part in a special test program, can now get a license.

Key Takeaways

  • •A pilot program tested heart catheter labs that are not in hospitals.
  • •The test proved the labs can do the work safely and at lower cost.
  • •The law lets those labs that were in the pilot get a license.

Example

A clinic that runs heart catheter tests outside a hospital wants to be officially licensed.

Because the clinic was part of the pilot program that showed the tests can be done safely and cheaply, the law lets it apply for a license.

§ 100921 Freestanding Cardiac Catheterization Licensing

The Legislature finds and declares that: (a)  A pilot program was established by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development to test the feasibility of performing high quality, safe diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures in a freestanding cardiac catheterization laboratory. (b)  Evaluation of this pilot program by the office demonstrated that it is feasible to conduct these procedures in nonhospital settings and that these laboratories maintain the quality of the diagnostic procedures while also reducing the cost of care. (c)  Based on this evaluation, it is the intent of the Legislature that those freestanding cardiac catheterization laboratories that are in active status in the pilot program be licensed. (Added by renumbering Section 128525 by Stats. 1996, Ch. 1023, Sec. 368. Effective September 29, 1996.)
