§ 6370 District Claims Procedures

This law says that any request for money or compensation from the district has to follow certain rules and must be approved by the auditor before it’s paid.

Key Takeaways

  • •Claims must follow the specific parts of the Government Code that are listed for district claims.
  • •If a claim isn’t covered by those parts, it has to be filed with the auditor using the auditor’s forms.
  • •The auditor must sign off on a claim before any money is paid out.
  • •The auditor keeps a public list of every claim, who made it, why, how much, and when it was paid.

Example

A family asks the school district for money because a falling tree from district property damaged their garage.

They must use the claim process set out in the other parts of the government code, and the auditor has to sign off on the claim before any payment is made.
