§ 6033 District Formation Voting Procedures

• •The resolution must spell out the voting method for forming a district.
• •Any missing details are handled by the general election laws that apply.
• •There is no need to mail sample ballots or precinct polling cards.

A town wants to form a new fire protection district and passes a resolution that says voting will be done at the town hall on Election Day.

Because the resolution says how the vote will be held, that part is covered. Anything the resolution doesn’t talk about, like who can vote or how to count votes, follows the normal election laws. The town does not have to send out sample ballots or special polling cards to voters.
