Key Takeaways

  • •Publish the petition notice in a newspaper for at least two weeks before the hearing.

  • •The hearing must be set no sooner than 20 days and no later than 40 days after the first publication.
  • •Anyone interested can appear at the hearing and be heard.

Example

A neighborhood group wants the county to build a new park and files a petition with the board of supervisors.

The group must put a notice about their petition in the local newspaper for at least two weeks, include the day, time, and place of the hearing, and schedule the hearing between 20 and 40 days after the first newspaper notice. Anyone who cares about the park can show up at that hearing and speak.
