§ 9123 Legislative Office Space Control

Key Takeaways

  • •The state government owns the buildings and land between 10th, 11th, N, and O Streets in Sacramento.
  • •The government can temporarily give away ownership for money reasons, but it always gets it back later.
  • •The government decides who gets to use the offices in these buildings, like politicians, reporters, and workers.
  • •Office space is split fairly between political parties based on how many members each party has.

Example

Imagine the government owns a big office building in Sacramento. They might rent it out to a bank for a few years to get some money, but after the rent is over, the government gets the building back.

The law says the government always keeps control of this building in the end, even if they let someone else use it for a while. They also decide who gets to work in the building, like giving half the offices to one political party and half to another if they have the same number of members.
