§ 8647 Emergency Aid Acceptance Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can take free or borrowed help (like money, supplies, or workers) from the federal government or others to handle emergencies.
  • •The Governor or local leaders must say 'yes' to the help before it can be used.
  • •The help must be used only for emergencies, like big storms or disasters.
  • •The rules of whoever gives the help must be followed.

Example

A big earthquake hits a town, and the federal government offers free food and blankets.

The town’s mayor can say 'yes' to the food and blankets, but only if the Governor agrees. The town must use the supplies only for people affected by the earthquake and follow any rules the federal government sets.
