§ 8231 Online Notarization Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Online notarization is not allowed in California yet.
  • •Notaries can't use online tools to notarize documents until the state sets up the system.
  • •The state has until January 1, 2030, to finish the system, unless they ask for more time.

Example

You want to get a document notarized online, like a permission slip for your kid’s school trip.

Right now, you can’t do it online in California. You have to go see a notary in person until the state says the online system is ready.
