§ 8225 Notary Coercion Penalty

Key Takeaways

  • •It's illegal to pressure or trick a notary into doing something wrong, like faking a signature.
  • •If you do this, you can be charged with a crime even up to 4 years later.
  • •You can still get in trouble for this even if other laws say the time to charge you has run out.

Example

You ask a notary to sign a paper saying your friend owns a car, even though you know they don’t.

This is breaking the law because you’re making the notary do something wrong on purpose.
