§ 66604 Bay Shoreline Protection Permits

Key Takeaways

  • •A special group (the commission) decides if big projects near San Francisco Bay can happen.
  • •They check projects that add dirt, take away materials, or change how land or water is used near the bay.
  • •The group holds public meetings before saying yes or no to a project.
  • •The goal is to keep the bay and its shoreline as safe and unchanged as possible.

Example

A company wants to build a big parking lot by filling in part of the bay with dirt.

The company must ask the commission for permission first. The commission will hold a public meeting to listen to people’s opinions. If they think the parking lot will hurt the bay, they can say no to stop it.
