§ 66463 Parcel Map Approval Process

Key Takeaways

  • •Local rules decide how parcel maps (land division plans) are approved or rejected.
  • •If a city lets an official (like a surveyor) approve maps, that person can also accept or reject land dedications (like giving land for roads).
  • •If the city council approves the maps, they follow the same filing rules as final maps.
  • •Cities can't take longer than the state's time limits to approve or reject these maps.

Example

A developer wants to split a big piece of land into smaller lots to build houses.

The city has its own rules for approving the land division plan. If the city lets the surveyor approve it, that person can also decide if the developer must give up some land for a new road. The city can't take too long to say yes or no—they have to follow the state's time limits.
