§ 65357 General Plan Distribution Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •After a city or county makes or changes its big plan for how the area will grow (called a 'general plan'), they must send a copy to certain government groups and anyone else who gave their thoughts on the plan while it was being made.
  • •If they forget to send the plan to these groups, it doesn’t mean the plan isn’t real or valid—it still counts.
  • •The plan must be available for everyone to see within one workday after it’s approved. You can go look at it in person.
  • •If you want your own copy of the plan, you can ask for it, and they have to give it to you within two workdays if you pay for the cost of copying it.
  • •The city or county can charge you a small fee for the copy, but it has to be a fair price—just enough to cover the cost of making the copy.

Example

Your town just approved a new plan for where parks, houses, and roads will go in the next 20 years. You want to see what they decided.

The town must let you look at the plan for free the day after it’s approved. If you want your own copy to take home, you can ask for one and pay a small fee (like a few dollars) to cover the cost of printing it. They have to give it to you within two workdays.
