§ 61006 District Legal Action Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to check if a district (like a school or water district) was set up correctly, you have to follow special rules in court.
  • •If you want to check if the district's money stuff (like loans or contracts) is legal, you also have to follow those same special rules.
  • •If you want to make the district or its leaders do something they're supposed to do, you have to follow different court rules.
  • •If you want to argue about a decision the district made after a meeting, you have to follow another set of court rules.

Example

Your town's water district builds a new pipe, but you think they didn’t follow the rules when they borrowed money for it.

You can’t just complain—you have to go to court and follow special steps to prove the loan was wrong. If the court agrees, they might say the loan isn’t valid.
