§ 58850 District Formation Definitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines who the 'county surveyor' is. It's usually the official county surveyor, but the county leaders can pick someone else if they want.
  • •A 'proposal' here means a plan to create a new district or change the borders of an existing one. These districts can charge taxes or special fees to pay for their work.
  • •This law does not apply to special districts for things like local improvements, municipal utility districts, or transit districts that cover more than one county.

Example

A group of people want to create a new fire district in their area to improve fire services.

This law helps explain what kind of plan this is. It's called a 'proposal' because it's about making a new district that might charge taxes. The county surveyor, or someone the county picks, would be involved in figuring out the borders of this new fire district.
