§ 57425 Tax Redemption After Disincorporation

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city stops existing, property sold for its taxes can still be bought back.
  • •The process to buy back the property is the same as if the city still existed.
  • •The new city where the land is now handles the paperwork.

Example

A small town called Oldville shuts down and becomes part of a bigger city called Newtown. Before Oldville shut down, it sold a house because the owner didn’t pay taxes.

The owner can still get the house back by paying the taxes, just like they could when Oldville existed. The paperwork will be done by Newtown, the bigger city.
